Miscellaneous Post

So last night when I got home - J*ff said "I like your hair" and I laughed, but was proud of him.  Later that same night (last night) I asked him what, exactly, did he notice or like about it.  He said "It's lighter, just like last time.  And I like how it's styled."

Hmmmm... he tried.  I say this because I had my hair "highlighted" with darker, more natural colors the last two times I've gone... THIS TIME, I went lighter.  So I then got to explain to him that "highlights" doesn't ALWAYS mean blonder, or lighter.

It falls along those same lines with him and watching the Star Wars movies once upon a time, and was clearly THE LAST PERSON ON EARTH to realize who exactly Anakin Skywalker is/was.  (We're talking the 1999 Episode I, The Phantom Menace).  <sigh>

And since this appears to be a "hair" column again today - I am going to share that today, my 22 year old SON, who has cornrows - asked me if I would take them out.  Being that I don't get him a whole lot anymore - I agreed with a smile on my face.  It gives me an opportunity to ask about 4 questions over the 30 minute period of time it takes to take them out.  I could easily ask about 36 more questions than that, but if I do, I risk irritating him and him deciding that the process is done - leaving me with a 22 year old son walking around with a head of hair half braided.  Seriously.

So I took out the first two braids and decided that something was off, different from the last time I took out his braids.  When he came home for his birthday 9 days ago he had these braids and I think they were done several days before then.  I was thinking through this and by the 3rd braid unraveling I realized that not only was it a totally different "feel" to his hair... it was also a totally different smell.  I gingerly worked through removing them and at one point told him to wash it at least twice all while breathing through my mouth.  I also told him that I love him very much, but his hair smells like a homeless person.  I mean not to disrespect homeless people... in fact, I'm sure there are people who own homes that have hair they don't wash for a few weeks...  but I have yet to meet them, so I used this example.

<I totally just shuddered>

When I was done - I went and burned my hands in the sink with three different kinds of antibacterial soap and then used my Denver Broncos antibacterial hand sanitizer.

Good news with this last part of the "hair blog" today, is that I'm no longer hungry for anything today.  Good for the diet...  Perhaps that's a way for me to make money and lose weight at the same time.  I could advertise on craigslist to remove peoples cornrows...  I might be onto something.

Cheers!

Dear J*ff.... If you're reading this:

In an effort to help out The Big Guy at this particular time of year - please make sure you read all the way down to the latest post on the "Dear Santa" page.

And because I know that you are probably thinking I'm talking about the Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Holy One (yes, I did just hear Amy Grant's Christmas tune "Emmanuel"), I think you should know that due to the title of the page (Dear Santa), I am actually referring to the other guy... The one in Red, with bells, and a belly, eyes that twinkle n such.

**Hint** We might get removed from the "Naughty List" if you do this.

You know who you are... J*ff.

We could be best friends...

Once upon a time, on February 11th, 2011 - my phone upgrade was up and for once I was going to be able to use MY UPGRADE on ME!  (Those of you with children of cell phone carrying age KNOW what I'm talking about!)  I was very happy with my Droid and my whatever I had before THAT, phones.  It was all the rage that on THAT VERY DAY, Verizon was going to be able to sell and provide service to the iPhones.  I really didn't need an iPhone and I wasn't sure I really wanted one... but I could HAVE one so I told Jeff I was going to stop at Verizon on the way to work if the line wasn't ridiculous.

Not only was the line not ridiculous - there was NO LINE!  But I drove on.  I really knew that it was just a whim and I probably had no real good excuse to go get that phone.  I got to work and called Jeff and told him that I didn't stop, that it was silly for ME to get such an involved phone.  He told me to go back... as did 3 of my co-workers.  I prodded around for a bit and finally said "OK!" and off I went back to Verizon.  There were now 2 other customers in the store and 18 employees to help all 3 of us.  I got my phone, went back to work and tucked her in for the day - I knew she was going to take time to "learn" how to use.  Unlike for my youngest, Mr. Technology who knows almost everything there is to know about Apple products.

I should now back up and let everyone know that THAT particular child wanted an iPhone in THE WORST way... and here I came home with one.  He didn't talk to me for a week.  But it was MY UPGRADE.  (He since has gotten an iPhone, though will never let me live down that I got mine first.)

That night - while I was playing with my phone - Jeff typed this on his Facebook page: "Should I be concerned that my wife just looked at her phone and said 'I love you.'?"  And I had.  And I did.  And I do.  BUT...

Jeff is the techie geek at work and his phone rep sent him two phones to "play" with and demo for a few weeks.  One of them is the new sleek, super skinny, but longer than my iPhone, droid kind of phone.  The other is the iPhone 4S.  He gets to play with Siri.  I do not have Siri.  I didn't think I cared about Siri.

Until today.

We went to work out at the club and when he came home and I made a mention about trees getting watered, laundry to do and started the dishes... he knew I was hinting at something - so he trodded back to make the bed.  (Good boy!)  But while he was doing that and showering I decided to ask Siri a few questions.

Me:  Siri, is it cold outside?
Siri:  (Pops up the thermometer with 25 degrees showing and says) I would say so, yes.

Me: Siri, is there an Albertsons nearby?
Siri:  I have found 15 of them close to you.  (and she populated them all)

Me:  Siri, can you show me People Magazines most beautiful man?
Siri: Sure.  Try this search. (and up pops People)

Me:  Siri, is Jerry Sandusky guilty?
Siri: He's in the shower, I can't ask him right now.
(Okay, this isn't a real question, but I would ask it if Jeff hadn't hijacked Siri and taken her away from me already!)

Me:  Thank you Siri, you're great!
Siri:  I am very good, but not great.

She seriously said that.  I knew after talking to Siri today that we ARE going to be best friends in the near future.  Word has it you can trade in your iPhone 4 with a little upgrade fee $$$ to get her.  And I will... oh yes... I will.

Love you Siri!  Muah!

Big Day Tomorrow

Interview for a new gig at 11:AM...  I've not been very forthcoming with details on this because I don't want to jinx it.  Of course... jinxing may not have a hoo haw to do with anything - because plain and simple, jobs are hard to come by these days.

I'd love to stay and chat, but we're on our third episode tonight of "Dexter".  We are, with this episode, halfway through the 3rd season.  The previous seasons will all be gone from On Demand on 1/3/2012 - so the clock is ticking.

More tomorrow.

Tomorrow:  Now Today.

Out of 150 applicants I made the top 6.  A decision will be made by weeks' end... and while I feel like it went amazingly well - I am reasonably certain that I will not be the candidate selected for the position.  Why?  Because out of the 6 of "us",  two are in house, 1 is coming from a competitor, 1 has previous experience and then there's me and unnamed - unreferred to "other".

While I'd love to think there's still a chance, I think that experience or simply already working for the company plays a key role here.  Granted, this was not the case at Spokane Public Schools... I think for a smaller company, it's probably realistic to think as much.

So I'm a little deflated because I got the tour and the people were great and the building was WARM and it's totally a challenge and something new!  And because I am having an ongoing struggle around 2:pm each day to NOT turn the TV on to get myself hooked on General Hospital, Sonny, Carly, Jason and bon bons.

Speaking of bon bons...

Until Friday.

1000 Lights.... and counting

I was rockin' and rollin' getting the lights on the tree when I got to the last strand.  I did the plug in check on the last 100 lights and found that the string was half out.   So of course now I have to go to the store for another strand of 100 white lights for the tree.  And probably a couple of them as our tree is about a foot and a half taller than last years!  I can't send Jeff because every time I do, he brings home the lights on the white string... which is appalling to look at on a GREEN tree.  <sigh>

I finished my crapts... uhhh, crafts from yesterday and managed to make special jello for my gorgeous nieces' graduation party (GO COUGS) tonight!  Shout out to Brittni!  Congrats girl!

No snow at Camden changes the experience but there was a moment when Jeff said "It's like they instantly turn 10 when they get out of the car up here."  Well... not quite instantly, there's a lot more "adult" words said, rocks thrown and laughter at each others and the dads' expense.  But after the christmas trees are cut (I can say "Christmas" here because I'm not affiliated with the schools or any other entity that makes you say "Holiday"... as if... Here's our HOLIDAY TREE...)  they run along, throw the football, (and this year rocks due to no snow) and play tag, tackle etc on their way down to the free cider at Camden Ranch.

I picked out my yearly Camden, CHRISTMAS decoration and away we flew...

One stop at The Ram in Riverside, a long car wait for our food and then, as we were checking the bag for our order and realizing they shorted us two burgers, so as Jeff was parking, she ran out our additional bag to us.  What's funny is... there were THREE extra burgers in it - none of them the one I had ordered.  We ate, we joked, we changed the radio station a gazillion times (Little Jeff was insistent that we never settle on a station that was playing a commercial) and as soon as we were home, we all disappeared to various areas.  I left the dad to manage the trees while I raced all over the South Hill to find cranberry jello.  Not out this year... at least not yet.  But the best flavor with Bacardi O... for... Christmas Jello.

I'm late... and surely full of fun and things to be crass or sarcastic about, but must get a move on.
